Still tinkering with D7000. Some white balance tests here. But damn it was cold.
I should buy a tripod, eh? Overall, not super pleased with the results. Still super fun though.
Some notes.
I waited for 20 minutes on the train trestle before I froze my arse off. The spur to the right I used to cross from the West side of the Mississippi. About six beams in, it was super scary. I felt like Verno in Stand By Me. Good thing I didn't bring the comb, because I would have lost it. No trains were coming, but soon after I started, I thought it was a bad idea, but not bad enough to turn back. So I went for it, like a train was bearing down. I figured it didn't look bad enough that if I did fall, I would actually fall to the river. Plus, it's frozen. Adrenaline kept me warm!
Naturally when I got back to Marshall Ave (above the concentric bridge shot) the damn NorthStar Commuter Rail blew underneath, washed in sunset. Next time!
The Grain Belt sign is a landmark in Minneapolis. No longer lit with pipes of neon, it stands awake in the sunlight, only to fall asleep at dusk. A popular subject for photographers, I couldn't resist. On my way back over the river, I saw it again in the sunset sun and had to have another go, this time, from under the Hennepin Ave Bridge.
Stay warm, folks. If I'd been smarter, I would have finished off the night with a Grain Belt.
Enjoy.
